FAN Joins First Call: Strengthening the Voice for Children and Youth in BC

We’re excited to share some news: Family Action Network (FAN) is now an affiliate member of First Call: BC Child & Youth Advocacy Society!

What is First Call?

First Call is a broad network of organizations and individuals across BC who all share one big goal: putting children and youth first when it comes to public policy, community priorities, and investments. Grounded in the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child, their work is guided by four key commitments:

  • Strong early childhood development
  • Smooth transitions from childhood to adulthood
  • Greater economic equality for families
  • Safe and caring communities

Through research, education, and advocacy — including the well-known BC Child Poverty Report Card — First Call works to ensure that every child in our province has the chance to grow up healthy, safe, and supported.

Why FAN Joined

Here in the Lower Columbia region, FAN has long been committed to building stronger communities to support families, from early years through to the primary years and beyond. Joining First Call connects us to a powerful, province-wide movement of advocates who are elevating children’s rights and well-being at every level of decision-making.

As an affiliate, FAN will:

  • Stay connected with cutting-edge research and policy updates.
  • Join collective campaigns that highlight the needs of children and families.
  • Contribute local perspectives from rural communities to a provincial dialogue.

This affiliation strengthens our ability to amplify the voices of families in our region, while standing shoulder-to-shoulder with others across BC who are working to reduce child poverty, expand opportunities, and ensure every child has a fair chance to thrive.

Why it Matters

Children don’t get to choose the circumstances they’re born into — but together, we can build communities that lift them up. By joining First Call, FAN is reinforcing our commitment to collective action for children and families, both locally and provincially.
