Have you been hearing about the FAN/UBC study that offers free developmental checkups and an opportunity to complete the Toddler Development Instrument or TDI?
Throughout the month of June every Thursday from 9am to 11am, drop into the FAN office in downtown Trail, 1160 Cedar Avenue (across the street from STEPS dance studio) to participate in the FAN/UBC study.
Heather or Christy from the Family Action Network will be available to tell you more about the FAN/UBC project and to offer the opportunity to complete the TDI and an Ages and Stages questionnaire. Parents who fill out the TDI will be entered to win a gift card from a local business. Filling out the TDI is simple and takes only about 15 minutes.
The FAN/UBC project is aimed at parents with children between the ages of 1 and 2. The purpose of the study is to gather local information on the developmental health of young children, and on the well-being of their families. Currently, there is no population level information collected that would report on these two areas until children enter Kindergarten.
With a vulnerability rate of 22% in our School District, translating to 110 students entering Kindergarten with vulnerabilities in one or more critical areas of development, we need to have information how our children are doing long before they enter the school system. With local information, we can develop local programs and supports in areas that are most needed.
For families who live in the Trail area, Thursday drop-ins throughout the month of June are a great way to connect. If you live in the Castlegar area or in other rural areas, there is a listing of our community partners who are also offering the opportunity to fill out a TDI and/or an Ages and Stages questionnaire on our website. Hope to see you in June. Coffee will be on and we’d love to meet with you.
